FlyScots Blog ! - Our Blog !- New Year, the Planning Starts !

I am going to use this blog to share our News and Progress regarding our training, planning, and eventual execution of the fund raiser in May 2014. This is the biggest thing I will, along with Neil have taken the time to plan, then execute on 2 wheels. -

Having just finished Christmas and New Year, our attention turns to the planning of a route that will be our guide from Lands End to John O Groats over 10-11 days from May 10th 2014.

We will be travelling down by hire van on Friday 9th May. This van will be handed back to the hire company in Penzance - We will be staying in a hostel/hotel not far from Lands End and starting the journey from May 10th... - That part is certain. As I type this the rest is currently to be planned and this is the challenge I like....

What is good via Google and Internet-land is there is a vast amount of information, guides, routes out there, so the challenge is made alot easier (obviously I am referring to the route planning here lol. ) Not the actual execution !!

Both tech fanatic's, we both own Garmin 810's so the route planning will mostly be done via .gpx files preloaded. I use a lot of different sites but a favourite if you are into this type of method of finding a route for your 2 wheeler is to use the site www.ridewithgps.com - This is a cracker for direct downloads.

Part of the discussion we have had is that we will have a route that is pretty firmly planned and will be broken down into 10/11 sections. But the idea is we are not going before hand with a day by day regimented progress. - Our progress will be dependant on how we get on, weather, the obvious mechanical scenarios and hit us blah blah.

What we will do is plan each day as it happens, night before, make a rough target and book hostels as we go...

We are hoping that Scott will be joining us as we make our way up the border line of Wales and England for a couple of days (He will read this and be nodding his head ;) ).

so LET THE PLANNING BEGIN FOR THE FUND RAISER FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK
